The Forest Stewardship Council, more commonly known as FSC, is an international, nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting responsible forest management and eco-friendly production techniques. Businesses that seek FSC certification agree to undergo the council's rigorous auditing process and subject themselves to continued checkups to ensure they're environmentally minded. When you buy products stamped with FSC's logo, you can be sure you're minimizing your impact on the world's remaining forests. The FSC, based in Bonn, Germany, was founded in 1993 amid concerns of worldwide deforestation. The first organization of its kind, the FSC is supported by Greenpeace, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the Forests and the European Union Resource Network (FERN). The FSC's certification process gives consumers the assurance that the products they buy are from suppliers and manufacturers who refuse to contribute to the destruction of the world's forests.
