Young Furniture to Showcase FSC Cabinets at Greenbuild Event PDF Print E-mail

BOSTON, Nov. 18, 2008 – Young Furniture will be showcasing its line of environmentally friendly unfinished cabinets and unfinished furniture at the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo.

The event, held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center from Nov. 19 to Nov. 21, gives businesses and organizations dedicated to eco-friendly building practices the chance to network and show off their products. The event's opening keynote address will be delivered by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, a Nobel Peace Laureate.

Earlier this year, Young Furniture was chosen as the best maker of “green cabinetry” in the Green Log Home & Lifestyle Awards. The New Hampshire-based unfinished cabinet manufacturer was picked as the best green cabinetry company of the year by an expert advisory panel and online participants.

Since its inception nearly 30 years ago, Young Furniture has been a strong proponent of responsible forestry, environmentally friendly manufacturing practices and renewable energy. Its workers handcraft custom unfinished red maple, pine and poplar cabinets and furniture.

Young Furniture is one of the few Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified manufacturers of unfinished cabinets in the United States. Young's FSC cabinets are designed to meet environmental standards prescribed by the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System.

Young Furniture became FSC certified in 2007. Young's workers put every single piece of FSC wood they get to good use, including sawdust and scrap wood. The FSC certified wood comes from forests that are managed responsibly. Young Furniture also strives to do business locally and regionally whenever possible.

Other Green Log Award winners include: Durisol Building Systems, Bio Based Insulations, Solatube International, Warmboard, Wright Design, EcoTimber, Aged Woods, Timber Pro Coatings, Nature's Hardware, Vetrazzo, Green Culture, Sustain Dane, Water Furnace, ecoShake and Green Right Now.
